Clients transferring between benefits

A client getting income-tested assistance may transfer between benefits or start getting extra help.

This applies to clients getting:

  • income-tested extra help, for example Accommodation Supplement, who start getting a main benefit, New Zealand Superannuation, or Veteran’s Pension
  • a main benefit, who start getting income-tested extra help
  • a main benefit, who transfer to another type of benefit
  • a main benefit, who transfer to New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran’s Pension with income-tested extra help
  • New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran’s Pension as a non-qualified partner, who transfer to their own main benefit or income-tested extra help

A transfer to another type of assistance may happen on any day of the week. The transfer date is based on the date of entitlement to the new benefit.

Clients may have an information share Child Support payment being charged as income at the time they transfer.

The income charge is calculated based on the benefit type (weekly or fortnightly) the client is getting at the time they get the payment. The end of the charge may need to be recalculated if the client is transferring to assistance on a different pay period.
