ACC weekly compensation
Weekly compensation is paid to compensate for the loss of earnings or loss of potential earning capacity as a result of injury. It is based on 80% of the lost weekly income before the injury occurred and is paid to the ACC client.
Weekly compensation may also be paid to:
- a person with a sensitive claim in relation to mental injury
- a surviving spouse or partner or
- to the caregiver of a child whose parent has passed away
Specified benefits
Payments of weekly compensation are a direct deduction from a client's specified benefit. For every $1.00 of the net weekly compensation payment received, $1.00 is deducted from the net specified benefit rate. This includes weekly compensation payable to a client, their partner or in respect of dependent children in their care.
The weekly compensation is deducted even if the money payable is not paid directly to them.
Note there are different rules for clients who were getting a benefit and weekly compensation before 1 July 1999.
New Zealand Superannuation
There are some limitations on clients getting both ACC weekly compensation and New Zealand Superannuation.
