Note 1

Temporary GST Assistance is:

  • a payment intended to compensate clients for the GST (goods and services tax) increase from 12.5% to 15% on 1 October 2010
  • payable from 1 October 2010 to 31 March 2011 (from 1 April 2011, it's expected that benefit rates increased by the annual general adjustment will incorporate cost-of-living increases since 1 October 2010)
  • equal to 2.02% of the non-taxable weekly benefit rate, and is always paid in full
  • paid automatically, at the same time as the main benefit payment
  • not taxable or classed as income
