People getting weekly compensation from ACC
Businesses (including self-employed people) may have employees who are unable to work and getting weekly compensation from Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).
Employee already getting ACC
If the employee was already getting ACC compensation when the business applied for the COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme, the business is not able to include this person in their application.
If they do include the person in error and the application is approved, the business will have got funds they are not eligible for and must repay the subsidy for this person to the Ministry of Social Development.
Employee goes on ACC during subsidy period
If the employee is injured and starts getting ACC compensation after the business applies for and/or got the COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme, the person gets both the subsidy and ACC compensation.
However, the employee must declare their wages from the COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme to ACC as income and their weekly compensation may be abated (reduced) accordingly.
Employee due to finish getting ACC during subsidy period
If the employee was getting ACC compensation at the time the business applied for the COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme for their other employees, but the person is no longer getting the ACC payments, the business can submit a new application for this employee.
