Redirection of benefit payment : Contents
Specific situations where there is good cause
There are some specific situations where you can consider there is good cause to redirect a person's benefit. These include the following:
If a client is in one of these situations, you can consider there is good cause and may decide to redirect their benefit:
- to another person, on behalf of the client or
- to pay for the client's debts or liabilities (anything that the client is required to pay) or
- for the benefit of the client's partner and/or dependent children
Note even where good cause exists, the Ministry is not always required to approve the redirection payment.
In most cases the client must agree to the redirection of part or all of their benefit, however, in certain circumstances it may be required without the client's consent.
