Car repairs
If a client meets all qualifications, an Advance Payment of Benefit may be made for repairs to a vehicle when the use of a car is essential for the client, or their dependent partner and children.
The car should be considered essential due to illness, disability, employment, or lack of access to public transport.
The car should be owned by the client or their partner, and not another family member or a friend.
Assistance should not be given to approve foreseen costs (for example, fuel, warrant of fitness, car insurance, car registration), or for regular servicing costs.
Car insurance excess
Car insurance excess is the cost a person has to pay towards their insurance claim, with the insurance company meeting the remaining cost.
If the client meets all qualifications, an Advance Payment of Benefit may be made for the cost of car insurance excess.
As a guideline, an Advance Payment of Benefit for car repairs should not be more than $400.
