Maximum debt recovery rate
The recommended maximum recovery rate for clients currently getting income support is no more than $40 a week, unless the client volunteers to pay more.
Debt types included in this maximum recovery rate are:
- Advance Payment of Benefit
- Recoverable Assistance for Study Costs
- Housing Support Products
- Special Needs Grant and
- overpayments of benefit
If the client does not wish to exceed this maximum recovery rate you will need to adjust the repayment rate or reduce the other debt recovery rates so that the total is no more than $40.00.
Client volunteers to pay more
If the client wishes to pay more than $40.00 a week they need to put this in writing, which then needs to be scanned and linked to the client event note.
Other debt information
The SOFSI screen in SWIFTT will automatically display:
- all debts being repaid from the client's current benefits (excluding Child Disability Allowance)
- the total amount owing on all debts and
- the total weekly amount of repayments
You can view the debts for a particular benefit/pension type by entering the benefit/pension code.
