Calculating rate

An Away From Home Allowance is assessed using a child's weekly qualifying accommodation costs. This is calculated by reducing the accommodation costs (rent or board) by the cost of any part of the property not lived in and any accommodation income they get.

An Away From Home Allowance is paid when the child's weekly qualifying accommodation costs are more than the entry threshold.

For every dollar paid over the entry threshold the client can receive a 70% subsidy.

This subsidy has a limit which differs from region to region.

The amount that a client can receive for their child's costs may be reduced depending on the level of the client's income or assets.
