Away From Home Allowance : Contents
Renewals
Away from Home Allowance is renewed every 26 weeks.
The purpose is to:
- ensure that the client stills meets the qualifications and is receiving the correct rate of payment and
- check for any change to the child's accommodation costs or course
Process
SWIFTT does not automatically issue the renewal forms.
A 26-week expiry must be added to the client's record.
You must manually issue a renewal form 4 weeks before the expiry date to enable the client to complete and return the form. See:
- Away from Home Allowance Review form [no link find out why]
Verification of changes
The client does not need to provide verification of any costs previously included if the costs have not changed.
However, they do still need to provide verification of:
- all new accommodation costs or
- any accommodation costs that have changed (that is increased or decreased)
For example, the client should provide proof such as a tenancy agreement or a letter from the child's landlord.
Legislation
- Review of entitlement to, or rate of, benefit granted Part 6, subpart 3 Social Security Act 2018
- Beneficiary must notify change of circumstances section 113 Social Security Act 2018
