Child leaves care
When a child leaves the care of a person getting a main benefit, Best Start tax credit and family tax credit payments paid for that child should be stopped from the beginning of the next pay period. This includes if the child left care suddenly.
The primary client's main benefit rate, obligations and any extra help may need to be reviewed following the child leaving their care.
Care and protection concerns
If MSD believes any child has been, or is likely to be harmed (physically, emotionally or sexually), ill-treated, abused, neglected, deprived or MSD has concerns about the wellbeing of the child, the case must be referred to Oranga Tamariki.
