In training
Childcare Subsidy may be paid for up to 50 hours per week if the qualifications are met and the caregiver:
- is in approved employment-related training
- needs assistance with childcare to be able to undertake the employment-related training and
- does not have a partner who can provide childcare or there is a good and sufficient reason why the partner is unable to provide childcare
The subsidy will only be paid for the time that the client is in training (including travel time).
For more information see:
Approved employment related training
A course is considered employment-related if it is designed to increase employment potential by developing greater work skills.
The training provider should be accredited with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
Rehabilitation programmes provided by reputable organisations would generally be regarded as providing appropriate employment potential. Therefore they would meet the Childcare Subsidy qualification.
Only if the client would otherwise be denied an employment-related training opportunity, should courses that do not meet the above criteria be considered for Childcare Subsidy.
