Payment

Disability Allowance covers additional costs directly related to the client's disability.

The amount paid is estimated in relation to the actual costs that have been or will be incurred on a regular basis.

For more information see:

If the costs are less than the maximum payable, round up the grant to the next 5 cents.

Round up any payments of less than 50 cents per week, up to 50 cents per week.

Payments for annual costs, paid in advance for a number of years

A client may choose to pay for an item or service as a lump sum that covers the cost for a number of years, such as purchasing a long-term Mobility Parking Permit.

These costs can be included in Disability Allowance for the 12 month period from when it was purchased, if the cost involved is a modest amount, or spread over the number of years the payment covers, if the person pays a substantial amount.

Note from 20 November 2017, except for the Counselling (45) and Transport Counselling (53) cost codes (which must have an expiry date), all other Disability Allowance cost codes will have an optional expiry date.
