Effect of security deposit being paid out on future Emergency Housing Grants

If a Security Deposit Grant is paid out to an emergency housing supplier, and the client needs to apply for a further Emergency Housing Grant, MSD may consider whether the new Emergency Housing Grant should be declined.

For example MSD may consider whether, given the damage to the previous accommodation, the client has contributed to their immediate emergency housing need.

This needs careful consideration as sometimes the damage may have been unintentional or a one-off, e.g. damage caused by the client's young children, and it may not be reasonable to decline the Emergency Housing Grant.

It is also relevant to consider the period of time that has lapsed between the new application and the client's stay when the security deposit was paid out.
