Emergency housing contribution payment date

Clients must pay their emergency housing contribution by the date or dates MSD determines for every Emergency Housing Grant where a contribution is payable.

Clients are required to pay a contribution from their 8th night in emergency housing.

Payment dates

A client may need to pay their contribution over more than one payment date. It depends on:

  • the date and length of grant and
  • the date of the clients next pay day and
  • the date of SWIFTT's payment extraction

For example, for a 7-night grant when the client is paid weekly, a client may pay 4 nights of their contribution on one pay day and then the rest of the contribution for 3 nights on their next pay day.

If a client gets a longer grant of up to 21 nights, they will usually have more than one date to pay the contribution. For example, if the client is paid weekly, they will pay their contribution for the 21-night grant across at least 3 pay days.

Clients who do not have a regular pay day or source of income

There are some clients who may have irregular pay days or income sources. MSD will discuss their situation with the client, and determine the date(s) for payment of the contribution that is appropriate for the clients situation. In most cases, this will be a weekly payment date.
