Payment
Flexible Funding Assistance provides one-off, non-taxable financial assistance for clients with dependent children staying in accommodation funded by an Emergency Housing Grant.
Actual and reasonable costs that may be covered by Flexible Funding Assistance include additional or increased costs relating to:
- participation in education, including early childhood education
- accessing childcare
- meeting wellbeing needs resulting from the families accommodation in emergency housing including:
- accessing health services
- finding suitable social or alternative housing
Note Flexible Funding Assistance is a discretionary payment (there is no maximum amount payable) and should only be considered after other sources of assistance to meet the need (including help from MSD), and the client's own available resources have been exhausted.
Contracted providers
MSD has contracted with providers throughout regions to administer and make payments of Flexible Funding Assistance on MSD’s behalf.
Once MSD has decided to grant Flexible Funding Assistance for a client's need, MSD will need to identify (where possible) a supplier to provide the item or service. This is done by requesting the contracted provider in the client's region to make the payment to the supplier.
For more information on this process see:
- Flexible Funding Assistance [no link find out why]
Note Flexible Funding Assistance cannot be paid directly to suppliers.
Other options to meet the need
If there are other less expensive suitable options to meet the client’s need, generally MSD should help with this option. However, if there is a good reason for the more expensive one, MSD may grant Flexible Funding Assistance.
