Death referred to coroner

There are times when a person's death is referred to the coroner to investigate the cause of death.

The coroner's inquiry to determine the cause of death can be a lengthy process. A Funeral Grant application should not be delayed while awaiting the outcome of a coroner's inquiry if there is enough information to determine entitlement to assistance.

For example, it is enough to know the death is not the result of an accident without needing to know the exact cause of death.
