Method of payment and reimbursements

A Funeral Grant can be paid to any of the following:

• a funeral director
• the surviving partner or child of the deceased
• the deceased person's estate
• the parent of a deceased child
• any person who has paid the deceased's funeral expenses

If the reasonable funeral expenses have already been paid, MSD may pay a Funeral Grant directly to the person who paid for those costs. The person must provide proof of payment.

Note the payment must be made directly to the person who paid the reasonable funeral expenses even if someone else made the application.
