Accommodation Costs Arrears Grant: Contents

Introduction

An Accommodation Costs Arrears Grant is a Housing Support Product for clients who need help to retain their accommodation. It provides recoverable assistance to help clients with overdue accommodation costs, who are at risk of losing their accommodation due to their arrears and who will be able to keep the accommodation if the arrears are paid.

An Accommodation Costs Arrears Grant is a discretionary grant and can be considered for any client who meets the qualifications.

Rent Arrears Grant

Clients can be paid a Rent Arrears Grant if they are in accommodation that the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 applies to.

MSD will need to assess the client’s accommodation agreement to determine whether the client is in accommodation that the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 applies to.

Clients will need to meet all other eligibility criteria to receive the grant.

Accommodation for Housing Support Products means the premises that a client occupies or intends to occupy as a home for the purpose of accommodation.

A premises is considered accommodation regardless of whether or not the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 applies, but does not include the following:

Regular and repeated costs that the client must pay for their accommodation. This can include any costs paid as a lump sum that are intended to act as regular and repeated costs for accommodation.

For clients in accommodation that the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 does not apply to, service costs can be included when they cannot be separated from the rest of the payment.
