Able to obtain and retain accommodation

To qualify for a Bond Grant, MSD must consider whether the client is likely to be able to get and keep the accommodation the bond is for.

MSD will need to discuss with the client whether they can likely afford (with any financial assistance, income and other resources available to them) to get and keep the accommodation, including the ongoing costs of the accommodation.

A client may be considered as being likely to get and keep accommodation when:

  • the proposed rent will generally not be over 60 per cent of their net income (and their partner's, if any) taking into account the client's individual circumstances and
  • MSD has discussed the client's budget, or have other evidence showing they can manage their future outgoings
