Hospitalisation
If advice is received that the client has entered public hospital and is intending to return to the rest home, you must find out from the service provider how long the client is expected to remain in hospital.
The service provider must advise Work and Income in the event that the client:
- does not return to the rest home or
- transfers to another rest home or
- the client is in hospital for more than 13 weeks
Client in hospital less than 13 weeks
If a client is to be in hospital less then 13 weeks, and the service provider is holding the client's bed and they will be returning to the rest home, continue paying the client's benefit contribution to the service provider unless the client elects to stop their benefit contribution. Add notes in CMS.
Client in hospital for more than 13 weeks
From the beginning of the 14th week, you should stop the benefit redirection for Residential Care Subsidy. The client reduces to the hospital rate of payment. You must follow up the circumstances to determine whether the benefit re-direction for Residential Care Subsidy is to be re-started or whether the client leaves hospital and re-enters residential care. Add notes in CMS and update the client's address details.
Residential Care Subsidy paid for 3 weeks only
Ministry of Health will only continue paying the client's Residential Care Subsidy for a maximum of 3 weeks.
