Leaving rest home
Where possible, stop any re-direction of benefit to the service provider from the date of discharge (current processing) or from the first available date.
If the client returns to live in the community, update the client's address details and invite applications for Extra help if appropriate. Add notes to CMS.
Establishing debt
Do not establish a debt to the service provider if you are unable to stop the payments of the client's benefit from the date of discharge due to internal processing deadlines.
You must advise the client to discuss any payment owed to them with the rest home.
Clients with a partner
You will need to review the rate of New Zealand Superannuation and stop the Special Disability Allowance paid to the partner from:
- the date the client left care (current processing) or
- the first available date if the advice of the change was received within 14 days of the client leaving care or
- the date the client left care if advice of the change was received more than 14 days after the event.
