Special Needs Grant : Contents
Cover under Accident Rehabilitation and Insurance
You may decide a Special Needs Grant for health travel costs is to be recoverable if:
- the client has or it is considered likely that the client has cover under the Accident Rehabilitation Compensation and Insurance Act 1992 or the Accident Insurance Act 1998 in respect of the treatment, assessment or services and
- the client cannot show that they have no entitlement to travel costs under the applicable Acts, as stated above
ACC have specific criteria that must be met before they make a contribution for travelling to treatment and this cannot be assessed by ACC until the client provides evidence of actual costs after the treatment.
When the client provides evidence at a later date that ACC have declined their application, the Special Needs Grant decision can be reviewed and made non-recoverable.
