International Custody Dispute Payment and income

The Special Needs Grants International Custody Dispute Payment is reduced dollar for dollar by any gross weekly income the client gets.

Other money that is not considered income may impact on the client's ability to meet the hardship criteria, for example cash assets like savings in a bank account.

Financial resources

To determine if a client is in hardship you will need to assess their financial resources minus costs.

Example

A sole parent with 2 children is staying in a refuge in Australia paying $60 per week accommodation plus other costs of $60 (food and power) per week. They also receive $200 per week in Child Support payments.

Income

$200.00

Less costs

$120.00

Equals

$80.00

If the client has enough money to cover their costs, the client is not in hardship.

If a client is not able to meet their costs with the income they get, the client is considered to be in hardship.
