Payment process - Civil Defence Payment

The following payment arrangements apply:

  • payments for people billeting evacuees and for evacuees in other temporary accommodation (in motels, hotels, camping grounds or home-stays, for example) are to be made directly to the accommodation provider
  • payments for loss of livelihood are to be made to the applicant
  • payments for food, clothing and bedding should generally be made to the supplier, however, as this is an exceptional circumstance payment can be made directly to the client

All applications should be granted from the date of the event.

Payments for food, clothing and bedding, up to the allowable maximum, made under the Civil Defence payment are not counted when calculating the amount of Special Needs Grant assistance available during a 52 week period.

No stand-down period applies to payments for loss of livelihood. Payment can commence from the day following the date payment of wages or salary ceased. Where a person is available for alternative employment, all available opportunities should be considered.

For a dependent child payment should be made through the parent's, guardian's or primary caregiver's SWIFTT record. If the whereabouts of the parent, guardian or primary caregiver is unknown then you will need to create a non-beneficiary record for the caregiver so that payments can be made for the child.
