Private hospital fees

A Special Needs Grant is not payable for termination of pregnancy private hospital fees including:

• applications when accessing operations privately is out of choice, not necessity and
• applications resulting from the District Health Board declining an operation because the client does not meet the medical criteria

Some public hospitals, contract private hospitals to carry out operations on their behalf. However, they fund the operation and the client should only be required to pay the user part-charge.

A client may be able to get a Special Needs Grant for the user part-charge.
