Ambulance fees and subscriptions
You must check whether the client qualifies for Disability Allowance. If the client is entitled to a Disability Allowance, it must be granted before you assess whether the client qualifies for Temporary Additional Support.
The client may have allowable health and disability costs for Temporary Additional Support where they do not qualify for Disability Allowance because:
- they do not meet the Disability Allowance income limit or
- their health or disability condition will last less than 6 months or
- they are certain refugees, protected persons or residence applicants
Allowable costs for Temporary Additional Support can include ambulance fees or subscription fees, when:
- the fee is directly related to their disability and
- the cost is on an on-going basis
When considering whether to include ambulance fees and subscription fees as an allowable cost consider the following:
- is the client and/or their family likely to require ambulance services
- how regularly an ambulance would be required by the client and/or their family and
- how often the client and/or family have needed an ambulance in the past
The client should provide proof of fees and the frequency of the service.
Note ambulance fees and subscriptions should be treated as 'transport for personal health' for Temporary Additional Support.
SWIFTT process
If a client or any family members are getting Disability Allowance, the total of their Disability Allowance costs contained in SWIFTT will automatically be included as allowable costs for Temporary Additional Support.
If the client or any family members do not qualify for a Disability Allowance and their ambulance and subscription fees are accepted as allowable costs for Temporary Additional Support you should to manually add them into the STAWA screen using the cost code 255 (Transport personal health).
