Change in costs
You will need to review Temporary Additional Support to make sure the client is getting the correct rate of payment whenever there is a change in the client's existing costs.
For more information see:
Note when the client has applied for new costs to be included, you should follow the commencement date rules. Allowable costs can only be added from the date the client applied to include the new cost.
The date to review Temporary Additional Support from will depend on the action involved. Generally, you should:
Increase
- increase Temporary Additional Support from the actual date of the change in circumstances
Note there are transitional arrangements when including formula-assessed Child Support costs for current Temporary Additional Support clients in the period 1 July 2023 to 29 September 2023.
For more information see:
Reduce, suspend or cancel
- reduce, suspend or cancel Temporary Additional Support from the first available date except when the client advises of a change more than 14 days after the event.
Note when a client has a decrease in formula-assessed Child Support costs, this is treated differently. Clients generally must tell MSD of a change within 14 days of the date Inland Revenue notifies the client of the outcome of their reassessment. This may be a different date than the date their costs changed.
False or misleading information
If a client gives false or misleading information you must review Temporary Additional Support from the actual date of the change in circumstances and establish an overpayment where appropriate.
