Commencement date
Unless a client applies for a main benefit and Temporary Additional Support at the same time, the commencement date for Temporary Additional Support is the later of:
- the application date and
- the date the client became entitled to it
Applying for a main benefit and Temporary Additional Support at the same time
When a client applies for a main benefit and Temporary Additional Support at the same time, Temporary Additional Support commences from the same date as the main benefit unless the 28-day rule applies to the main benefit.
In some circumstances a client who applies for a main benefit within 28 days of their entitlement date can have their benefit commence earlier than their application date. In these cases, the main benefit commences from the day after the initial stand-down ends.
The 28-day rule does not apply to Temporary Additional Support.
Effect of initial stand-downs, non-entitlement periods and sanctions
A client is not entitled to Temporary Additional Support during:
- an initial stand-down
- a non-entitlement period
- a 100% suspension sanction
