Transitional housing contribution

Clients who are staying in transitional housing funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development pay a transitional housing contribution of up to 25 percent of their income towards their accommodation costs.

Clients who are staying in transitional housing and who pay a transitional housing contribution towards their accommodation costs generally do not qualify for Accommodation Supplement. See: Examples of Accommodation Supplement for emergency and transitional housing

The transitional housing contribution may still be included in Temporary Additional Support if the client does not qualify for Accommodation Supplement. Some providers may charge a service fee, in addition to the transitional housing contribution. This fee, which generally covers utilities such as internet and power, is not considered an accommodation cost and cannot be included in the client's Temporary Additional Support.

Arrears

Arrears for transitional housing contribution can be included as an accommodation cost.

Verification

The client needs to provide us with verification of their transitional housing contribution (unless it's already set up in SWIFTT as a benefit redirection).

This verification should generally be a letter or agreement between the client and the transitional housing provider, showing the amount of transitional housing contribution the client must pay.
