Calculating the rate of Winter Energy Payment

The weekly rate of Winter Energy Payment is found by dividing the appropriate rate for the entire winter payment period.

The rates are $450 for single clients, and $700 for a couple or a single client with dependent children divided by:

  • 22 weekly payments if the qualifying benefit is a main benefit or
  • 11 fortnightly payments if the qualifying benefit is New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension

Winter Energy Payments

For Winter Energy Payment the winter payment period is 22 weeks, starting on 1 May and finishing 1 October each year.
