Benefit extension periods of up to 28 days

In some specific situations there is the ability to extend a main benefit beyond the period of entitlement. If a client is getting a Winter Energy Payment and they qualify for an extension to their benefit payments in one of the following situations then the Winter Energy Payment can continue until the benefit expiry date (when it is still within the Winter Energy Payment period):

• a client dies leaving a partner or dependent child
• the last or only dependent child of a sole parent leaves care suddenly or dies
• a person being provided with fulltime care and attention goes into residential care permanently or dies
• a client no longer meets the medical eligibility criteria for a Supported Living Payment (health condition, injury or disability)
