Winter Energy Payment : Contents

Commencement date

A client may start getting the Winter Energy Payment:

  • on the commencement date of their qualifying benefit (initial application) or
  • 1 May

whichever is later.

It is paid for a 22 week period from 1 May each year.

Clients can choose not to get the Winter Energy Payment

Clients may choose not to get the Winter Energy Payment by advising the Ministry of Social Development at:

  • the time they first apply for a qualifying benefit or
  • any later date
