Informing partners of their obligations

Before granting a benefit, you must ensure that the partner understands:

  • their obligations (dependent on the age of their child or if they have no children)
  • the consequences of failing to meet those obligations, in particular the sanctions that may be imposed and
  • their right to review and dispute any decisions relating to a failure to comply with their work obligations

Partners of clients receiving Emergency Benefit must be notified in writing if they have work or work preparation obligations. To do this, you must:

  • note on the partner's obligations section of the application form that you have decided they should have work or work preparation obligations and
  • give the partner a copy of their obligations from the application form

Note that the work or work preparation obligations cannot be enforced until the main benefit commencement date.
