Payment
Emergency Benefit is paid weekly on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Payment is from Monday to Sunday and is made 1 week in arrears.
Generally, payment must be made directly to the client. However, where there is good cause, the client's or partner's benefit can be paid to another person, agent or institution.

Exception for young partners
There are 2 ways that young partners aged 16 or 17 years (with no children) and 16 to 19 years (with dependent children) can have their portion of their benefit paid to them, depending on whether the young partner is subject to youth money management or not.
Young partner is not subject to youth money management
When a young partner is not subject to youth money management they can get their portion of their main benefit payment, family tax credit and any extra help paid directly to their bank account.
Young partner is subject to youth money management
If a young partner is subject to youth money management the young partner's portion of main benefit, family tax credit and any extra help (except Disability Allowance and Child Disability Allowance) is paid via:
- payment directly to supplier (e.g. a payee redirection for accommodation costs, utility costs and lawful debts)
- in-hand allowance which is paid directly to the young person's bank account
- payment card - the young person is able to purchase goods (such as food and groceries) from approved suppliers
Note Disability Allowance and Child Disability Allowance is paid directly to the young person's bank account.
