Secondary education

Participating in secondary education is the preferred way for a young partner to meet their activity obligation of being in or available for full-time secondary or tertiary education, employment-related training or work-based learning.

They must be working towards a NCEA level 2 qualification or an equivalent or higher qualification.

A young partner enrolled in secondary education (including composite schools, correspondence schools, and secondary schools) must:

  • regularly attend classes
  • compete assignments and
  • complete other course requirements

School holidays

You may require a young partner to undertake other activities that work towards NCEA level 2 or equivalent or higher qualifications during the summer holidays.
