Taking all reasonable steps for enrolling in and attending school
Reasons to consider a client is taking all reasonable steps to meet this obligation may include (but are not limited to) that:
- the child has a health condition, injury or disability that affects their ability to attend school
- the child is regularly missing classes for no good reason but the Attendance Service is working with the family and the school to get the child attending school again
- the client is actively trying to encourage their child to attend school but the child has behavioural problems and attendance at school is out of the client's controlĀ
Note you need to record this as an exception reason in OBMAN using 'Child is not permitted to attend' as the obligation reason.
Note if the parent is in the process of being prosecuted under the Education and Training Act 2020, you must not ask them to comply with this social obligation. You need to record this as an exception reason in OBMAN using 'parent is in prosecution for truant child' as the obligation reason.
