Example of employment during the stand-down
The following calculations are based on the initial stand-down periods as at 5 February 2014.
Example
A sole parent client with one dependent child has applied for Emergency Maintenance Allowance:
Average weekly income period | 26 Weeks | 52 Weeks |
Entitlement date | 12/02/2014 | 12/02/2014 |
Average weekly wage | $1052.00 | $1100.00 |
Assessed stand-down | 2 weeks | 2 weeks |
Commencement date | 26/02/2014 | 26/02/2014 |
The calculation provides the sole parent with the maximum 2 week stand-down period for both 26 and 52 weeks therefore the commencement date is 26/02/2014.
Employment during stand-down
The sole parent client had a temporary full-time job for 2 weeks from 14/02/2014 until 28/02/2014. The sole parent earned a total of $1600 (before tax) during this period:
Average weekly income period | 26 Weeks | 52 Weeks |
New entitlement date | 01/03/2014 | 01/03/2014 |
New average weekly wage | $1032.76 | $108.46 |
Reassessed stand-down | 1 week | 2 weeks |
New commencement date | 08/03/2014 | 15/03/2014 |
The calculation that provides the sole parent client with the lesser stand-down period is 26 weeks and has been reassessed as one week. The new commencement date will be 08/03/2014.
