Initial stand-down procedure
Step 1. Find the client's entitlement date.
Step 2. Calculate the client's average weekly income for a 26 and 52 week period.
Step 3. Find out whether the client has or had any dependent children in their care at any time during the 26 and 52 weeks prior to their entitlement date. When determining the correct stand-down period, you must take into account any children that were in the clients care during the 26 and 52 weeks prior to the entitlement date.
Step 4. Using the information from Steps 2 and 3, determine the initial stand-down for the client over a 26 and 52 week period by looking at the Initial stand-down period chart in Deskfile.
Step 5. Use the calculation of average weekly income that gives the client a lesser stand-down period.
Step 6. Apply the initial stand-down from the client's entitlement date to find the commencement date.
Remember if you enter the correct information into SWIFTT it will automatically calculate the initial stand-down and commencement date for you.
Note if the client has had a dependent child (or children) in their care during the 26 and 52 weeks prior to their entitlement date and the child (or children) is no longer in their care, you will have to use a work around. Contact Helpline for this information.
