Oranga Tamariki documentation

Where there has been Oranga Tamariki involvement and a Family Group Conference held, you will need to obtain copies of the relevant Oranga Tamariki documents from the client.

If the client cannot show the required 'proof' of a breakdown from Oranga Tamariki you will need to hold a Family Meeting.

A supporting letter from Oranga Tamariki (or other authorised agency) alone is not proof of a breakdown but may provide supporting information relevant to a Family Meeting by confirming the continuation of placement with the alternative caregiver.

Relevant documentation from Oranga Tamariki

Relevant documentation from Oranga Tamariki, obtained via the client, to prove a family breakdown has occurred, include:

  • a copy of the Family Group Conference outcome
  • copies of all current Court Orders in respect of the child
  • a copy of the court-approved Plan

These documents confirm current care arrangements and also include future care arrangements, including the reason that the child has come into the client's care.

If the client cannot show Oranga Tamariki documentation, it will be necessary to conduct a Family Meeting.

These services must be approved under the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 by the Chief Executive of Oranga Tamariki.
