Jobseeker Support : Contents

New businesses

Recently established businesses will not usually have enough money to fall back on during non-productive periods. Consider Jobseeker Support on a short term basis where:

  • the client is clearly available for work
  • the client meets all of the qualifying criteria and
  • there is an expectation that work will be available again

Note there is an exception for some clients, see:

Example

A client establishes himself as a firewood contractor from February until October. There is no further work available following February. The client is looking for other types of work and has no cash reserves to see them through.

Jobseeker Support could be paid between October and January as there is no ongoing involvement in the business, there has been no opportunity to build up funds, and the client is available to undertake alternative work.
