Pregnancy
A client can only get Jobseeker Support (health condition, injury or disability) for pregnancy from the beginning of the 27th week of pregnancy unless they:
- are suffering from an illness or disability other than pregnancy or
- have complications with the pregnancy which prevents the client from being in paid employment
The medical certificate must show the expected date of birth of the child.
Clients without complications who are less than 27 weeks pregnant may be entitled to get Jobseeker Support with full-time work obligations.
If the client does not have a partner, explain to the client that:
- once the child is born they have to let us know of the birth and
- also whether the client intends to keep the baby
For more information about continuing entitlement to Jobseeker Support (health condition, injury or disability) when the baby is born, see: Birth of a child
Overdue pregnancy
You can extend a client's Jobseeker Support (health condition, injury or disability) without an additional medical certificate when they have gone past their expected date of the birth.
The client needs to contact their case manager to let them know they are overdue. The Jobseeker Support (health condition, injury or disability) can be continued with no further medical verification required.
The benefit can be extended to 4 weeks after the expected due date.
