Retirement
Retirement is any situation where a person's contract of employment has fully ceased due to retirement. This applies to all types of retirement including age-related retirement, medical retirement, early retirement, and temporary retirement.
If a person retires from employment, they voluntarily cease work. Under the Humans Rights Act, employment contracts can no longer state an age of retirement so a person can retire at any age.
If a client with work obligations has voluntarily given up work even if they have retired we would generally impose a voluntary unemployment stand-down unless they had a good and sufficient reason for giving up work. For example they gave up work due to ill health, or the job may be outside the client's capabilities.
