Establishment Grant

The Establishment Grant is a non-taxable, non-recoverable payment to carers who are granted Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit for a child.

The caregiver, or their spouse or partner can only ever receive the Establishment Grant once for each Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit child.

The caregiver receiving Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit is not required to apply for the Establishment Grant; this payment is made when the Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit has been granted.

The Establishment Grant will not be paid when a caregiver has been granted an Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit, if the caregiver, their spouse or partner (if any) has:

• previously received an Establishment Grant for that Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit child

or

• received or been approved to receive a payment for achieving Home for Life status for the Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Child's Benefit child

Note caregivers who are seeking Home for Life status but who have not been approved may be eligible for the Establishment Grant

When the Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Childs Benefit has been regranted or the child is re-included, within 28 days of the previous Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Childs Benefit being cancelled for that child you cannot pay the Establishment Grant.

If the caregiver has been regranted an Orphans Benefit or Unsupported Childs Benefit or the child is re-included after 28 days then the caregiver can receive an Establishment Grant, if the caregiver has never previously received an Establishment Grant for that child.
