Assistance for the parent not qualified for Sole Parent Support

If a sole parent client cannot receive Sole Parent Support because there are no court orders recognising the split care arrangement, you should first consider whether they are entitled to receive any other benefit (for example Jobseeker Support).

To determine whether your client may qualify for a main benefit you should discuss the following:

  • are they available for or seeking full-time employment?
  • do they suffer from an illness or disability which limits their ability to work (either permanently or temporarily)?
  • why are they unable to earn sufficient income to support themselves?
