Sole Parent Support : Contents
Qualifies for another benefit
A client may qualify for another benefit due to a change in their circumstances. It is also important to determine if the client still qualifies for Sole Parent Support.
For example:
- if the client's last child leaves their care they would no longer qualify for Sole Parent Support and they would generally transfer to another benefit or
- a client reaches the qualifying age for New Zealand Superannuation
If the client qualifies for more than one benefit they must be told which benefit is the most beneficial for their particular circumstances. You will need to advise them of:
- benefit rates
- the effect of any income they may receive (income reduction and any exemptions) and
- benefit obligations
The client must make the final decision on which benefit they receive after being given all relevant information.
