Tax codes

Sole Parent Support is taxed at the 'M' rate.

Sole Parent Support is always considered the client's primary source of income regardless of the amount paid.

If the client has other income this is always considered the client's secondary income. Clients can apply to Inland Revenue for a tailored tax code for other income.

You can view a client's current monthly tax details in STAXQ. The client's tax history can be viewed in STAXI.

New Zealand Superannuation and Veterans Pension clients are the most likely to use a tailored tax code.

Inland Revenue will contact people who may be better off using a tailored tax code.

'Tailored tax codes' replaced 'special tax code' on 1 April 2019.
