Client does not need to complete the reapplication process
Sole Parent Support clients do not need to complete the 52 week reapplication process where they are, at any time during the notice period, in one of the following circumstances:
- in hospital
- in residential disability care or rest home care or
- living in or visiting a region affected by an emergency or adverse event and they are unable to reasonably leave the area
Clients in one of these specific circumstances will have their expiry date reset to the end of the next 52 week period. They will be sent a letter advising that, because of their current situation, they do not need to reapply.
The client does not need to complete the reapplication process until their next expiry date, if they still need Sole Parent Support.
Clients in hospital
If MSD is aware a client is in hospital when the 'initial notice to reapply' letter is due to be sent, the letter will not be sent.
If the client is in hospital at any time during their notice period, they do not need to complete the 52 week reapplication process.
MSD will review the client's Sole Parent Support and any Extra Help they get when the client is discharged from hospital.
For more information see:
Client in residential disability care or rest home care
If MSD is aware a client is in residential disability care or rest home care when the 'initial notice to reapply' is due to be sent, the letter will not be sent.
If the client is in residential disability care or rest home care at any time during their notice period, they do not need to complete the 52 week reapplication process.
This includes but is not limited to clients in residential disability care or rest home care getting Residential Care Subsidy or Residential Support Subsidy.
Emergency or adverse events
It may be determined that a client no longer needs to complete the 52 week reapplication process if they experience an emergency or adverse event which affects their ability to reapply before their expiry date.
This is limited to clients who, at any point during their notice period, are:
- living in or visiting a region affected by an emergency or adverse event and
- they are unable to reasonably leave the area.
An area affected by an emergency or adverse event means that:
- a local state of emergency or national emergency is in force in the area (e.g. because of a natural disaster such as a flood or earthquake), or
- an epidemic notice is in force in the area (i.e. because of an outbreak of a quarantinable disease that is affecting or may affect the area), or
- other exceptional circumstances are affecting the area
As an emergency or adverse event affects a whole area or region, or is nationwide, it is likely that multiple clients will be affected by the event.
Generally, in an emergency or adverse event, MSD will be able to determine which clients have been affected as a result of the emergency or adverse event.
