Informing clients of their obligations
You must ensure that the client understands:
- their obligations
- the consequences of failing to meet those obligations, in particular the sanctions that may be imposed and
- their right to review and dispute any decisions relating to a failure to comply with their obligations
Clients applying for Sole Parent Support must:
- sign their application form and
- be given a copy of their obligations from their application form
Note that obligations cannot be enforced until the main benefit commencement date.
Clients transferring between obligations
When a client is receiving a benefit and they have a change in obligations, a letter will be sent advising them what their new obligations are. They do not need to re-sign an obligations form.
This includes where a client is transferring between having work preparation obligations and then part-time work obligations when their youngest dependent child turns 3 years of age within Sole Parent Support.
