Sole Parent Support : Contents

Refugees and protected persons

In general a refugee or a protected person cannot receive Sole Parent Support unless they have been granted permanent residence.

If a refugee or a protected person has permanent residence, assess them for Sole Parent Support in the usual manner. Refugees and protected persons with permanent residence are exempt from meeting the two years continuous residence criteria.

Note when a client leaves the Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre no stand-down applies to the grant of the benefit.

Clients without permanent residence

If a client is a refugee or a protected person and has not been granted permanent residence, Emergency Maintenance Allowance may be considered.
