Report to service provider or Work and Income on progress
A young partner is required to report to their service provider or Work and Income 'in-house' service on how they are satisfactorily meeting their obligation to be:
- in education, training or work-based learning
- participating in a budgeting programme and
- (if a parent) participating in a parenting education programme and other parenting obligations
A service provider or Work and Income 'in-house' service can ask a young partner to report to them by either phone, email or in person and will determine how often the young partner must report.
The frequency of reporting must be reasonable and take into account:
- the length of the activity
- how often the young partner is required to attend
- whether a young partner has failed to comply with their obligations in the past
Generally a young partner should not be required to report more than once a week.
Example
The service provider sets an activity for a young partner to attend a budgeting programme and asks that they report on their progress when they commence the programme and when they attend each week.
A young partner undertakes the budgeting programme. They phone their service provider when they commence the programme and report in each week of the programme to confirm their attendance.
